Trail Conditions

Saturday, February 15,2025. Skied Sweet H2O, Christian and Leonard. New snow over track laid Friday. Overall excellent conditions. It would be a good idea for ASP to track on weekends. I thought it might be useful to give some xc-country skiing tips. Buying xc skis: People ask me how to I pick a ski that fits me. The choice is often wrongly made by measuring their height. The snow doesn’t know how tall you are it only knows what you weigh. When trying on a new pair of skis place them on a flat floor and step on them. There is a mark on skis that marks their balance point. Place the balls of your feet there. With equal weight on both feet a piece of paper should slip under your skis where your feet are. This means that when you’re gliding your kick wax or your kick grooves don’t touch the snow. Next you should place most of your weight on one ski and this time the paper should not slide under your ski. This mean that the skis have the correct camber and will grip the snow when you kick. As an aside, xc skis have a kick zone and a glide zone.
