Th 2/11/10- Gary Q, Red House Mgr
Track set on all trails. Upper trails conditions are good- lower trails are in fair condition but much improved from the conditions earlier in the week. Next grooming is planned for Tuesday or Wednesday which will be determined by additional snowfall. In the event of unexpected snowfall-grooming will be conducted over the weekend (if needed).
W 2/17/10- Gary Q, Red House Mgr
Track set on all trails. Trails are in good condition. Grooming will resume on Friday unless large snowfall is received.
F 2/19/10- Gary Q, Red House Mgr
Track set on all trails. Upper trails are in good condition- lower in fair conditon- Snowsnake does have soft conditions with some clumpings of snow.
W 2/24/10- Gary Q, Red House Mgr
Trails are still in good condition. Tracks may be hard and icy- ski with caution. Grooming is planned for Friday in anticipation of additional snowfall tonight through Friday morning.
F 2/26/10- Gary Q, Red House Mgr
Received approx. 4-6″ of new snow overnight. Trails are in good condition but may have icy base. Use caution drifting areas may exist due to windy conditions. Grooming is planned for early Saturday morning due to more snow expected today and tonight.
M 3/1/10- Gary Q, Red House Mgr
Track set on all trails. Good amount of new snow was received over weekend. Conditions listed as good- with temps in 30’s most of the week and no significant snowfall expected grooming will resume later in the week if necessary.
W 3/3/10- A Dickson
Disregard 3/1 report above from GQ. I received it Monday thinking the park groomed Monday but they haven’t. He is referencing the track-setting done on Saturday. I skied today. Tracks are beat up and, with the warm temperatures, soft and slow. I was icing up with KR50 klister. It was a beautiful day, though. Quit early and went home and rode my bike.
3/4/10- A. Dickson
ASP will be grooming Friday 3/5 AM with snowmobile and track setter (no cat).

4-6″ base remains. Conditions on upper trails better- tracks are icy making for fast skiing – use caution. (Tracks set on all trails- AD).

still skiable. christian was icey and fast but then as i continued onto sweetwater and beyond, things got softer and considerably less icey. coverage is still complete (skied everything xcept the snake) and tracks are good.
3/4/10 skied upper trails -tracks icy and fast. tracking with sled would make track perfect for weekend
Skied Wednesday nite. The system still has a great base with several inches of ungroomed new snow. Also, the Sweetwater has seen a fair amount of hiking done on it. But there will be great skiing this weekend if the park grooms!
We returned today for three more hours of challenging skiing-today we took Patterson to Ridge Run.We found very soft packed tracks-mostly skier-set.But the sun was just beaming! It’s still good….
3/2/10 Tuesday trails haven’t been tracked since early Saturday. 3-4 inches new snow tracks made by skiers soft and sloppy. skied SweetH2O, Christian, Leonard, Ridge, Snow Snake.
Tuesday noontime March 2…great tracks..even the skier-set singletrack on Leonard! Terribly “sticky ” at the far side of Leonard but…..still better than anywhere else I ski!
Skiid Sun. 2 p.m.
Had not been tracked with 3 in. new snow.
Sweetwater tracks soft but skiid down.
Little traffic on Leonard and Ridge.
29 degrees. Waxless.
Still worth it!
took a chance and drove down in the drizzle at about noonish. was even better than the optimist in me was hoping for. did the sw,ch, lr,rr, patterson loop clockwise. apparently violet kick wax was not the wax to go with today but i can always use an upper body workout anyway. saw at least five people out on the trails and probably five cars in the parking lot. good signage at the summit entrance letting snowmobilers and snowshoers know that they’re not supposed to use the trails.
30 degrees at 4:30 pm.
light drizzle.
Tracks reasonably good and fast. Somewhat frozen,
Waxless. Ridge was barely skied.
One other car.
Still worth the trip!
did sweetwater, christian, leonard, ridge and patterson. trails looked they were just rolled. tracks weren’t super deep but they were definitely sufficient. got to play “chase the rabbit” most of the way up patterson. i was the rabbit. the rabbit didn’t get caught.
am new to the wax thing but i used blue and blue and probably skied those trails as fast as ever.
2/16/2010
Park set track today . Track could be deeper but otherwise perfect!
Skied Sweetwater, Christian and part of Patterson (about a mile down and then back up). Trailers were not groomed by skiers had left good tracks. Christian was drifted with only one set of track going up to the overlook if skiing clockwise. Overall loops were in good condition.
skied all 3 loops sat 2/6, tracks became very shallow in spots but skiing was good. skied ridge run and patterson mon 2/8, snow was shallow in the lower area of ridge run but still decent skiing.
The tracks on the upper trails are still in excellent condition, hard and a bit fast. The Ridge – Patterson trail has not been groomed. Also, the hut was locked all day on Monday.
Had a group of 10 up to the Summit cabins for the weekend. We came in from Ohio. This is our sixteenth year for our annual winter weekend. Had a great time! Skiing and the views were awesome! We love this place. Allegany is a great place to ski and as usual we skied to our hearts content. Conditions of the trails was very good and challenging. Watching the race on Sunday was an extra plus for us.
Great Loppet today. Couldn’t ski myself – but I’ve posted a number of event pics on the Hollerin’ Jer blog. Enjoy.
Skied upper trails 2/6. Good conditions. 40 cars in lot @ 1230. Baljit Puri is correct. Grooming for the race would create more problems than it would solve. The course is raceable as is.
I have skied everyday since fresh snow came again on January 28. The conditions have been very good.
I came across a number of walkers with snow shoes and ordinary boots. They were damaging the trails. I politely told them not to walk on these trails. Their response was:”The only sign at the entrance prohibits snowmobiles. We are not aware walking with boots is prohibited”. The Park Administration should immediately install a sign similar to snowmobiles prohibiting walkers with snow boot/shoes. The big sign prohibiting snowmobiles is misleading.
I understand the ASP is planning to groom the trails tonight for the race tomorrow. I suggest no grooming should be done unless we get more snow. Grooming will only make the conditions worse. We do not have enough snow for grooming. Conditions as is are excellent with tracks already made by skiers.
Friday morning car count (abt 11:15 am, 2/5)
11 NY
1 PA
1 NJ
Track was better than I expected on Sweetwater this morning due to skiers with great trail etiquette over the past few days. Thanks everyone. There were some walkers on the fire tower loop since the last snow. Some boot prints were well off to the side of the trail, but someone wearing XC ski boots walked in the track along most of the loop
The upper trails have excellent coverage; there is about three-four inches of ungroomed new snow on top of last weekend’s base.
We skied Christian and Leonard today (2/4) the base is quite thin in places and unless a lot more snow comes, grooming for the Loppet would probably do more harm then good.
did the upper trails wednesday around lunchtime. good, solid base. tracks are a little shallow in places.
Conditions were decent on Sunday. Can’t wait for race next Sunday!
Very good conditions late Sun.
Ridge has some debris to step around.
No real issue on coverage.
Blue.
Got 3 more inches overnight.
