(Note: During the 2008-09 season, the LMC Snowcat was out of operation and the park staff were learning to use the snowmobile grooming equipment.)
Better tracks are what brought us together. The 2008-09 season saw some improvements and some set-backs in trail grooming. In order realize year-over-year improvements in grooming, we need to hear from everyone about what went right and what wet wrong. We need to assemble a body of feedback by fall to convey to ASP. Below are some observations put forth by Chuck Walker on the subject. What are yours?
The Good
· Quick snow packing after snow storms
· Quick setting of tracks
· Trail clearing after wind storms
The Bad
· Soft trail
· Shallow tracks
· Narrow trail (pole plants in deep snow)
· Washboard ripples in tracks
The Ugly
· Continued erosion on some trails (e.g., Paterson & Christian Hollow)
· Dogs, snow shoers, and runners on the trials
· Snowmobiles on the trails
